A NI gas provider has announced a 34% price increase

A NI gas provider has announced a 34% price increase: Firmus energy, Northern Ireland’s natural gas supplier, has announced a 33.57 percent rise in gas pricing for consumers in the Ten Towns area.

The price increase, which will take effect on February 24th, will affect around 59,000 consumers.

The typical household’s costs will rise by £5.95 per week as a result of the hike.

Customers who use a credit metre should anticipate their yearly gas bill to jump by roughly £325 to £1,293.

Customers with prepayment gas metres will see their annual prices rise by about £309 to £1,230.

“The Utility Regulator forewarned us that energy price rises of this nature will continue because of exceptionally high global wholesale gas prices, however, it is never good news for consumers when prices go up.” Said Raymond Gormley, Head of Energy Policy at the Consumer Council

“With the cost of energy continuing to increase, the Consumer Council is concerned about a potential rise in fuel poverty as many families may struggle to find the extra money they will now need to pay for heating.”
