A Yorkshire village could help UK cut 2m tonnes of CO2

A Yorkshire village could help UK cut 2m tonnes of CO2: A little village located nearby Leeds, West Yorkshire with a population of about 4,000 people might possibly help the UK slash as much as 2 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions each year.

Northern Powergrid has started a trial that will witness the small village use smart-meter-led technology to reduce energy bills as well as lower emissions of local homes.

The electricity distribution network operator aims to gather data from local smart meters and will evaluate them to improve the network voltage.

This optimisation might assist local customers in reducing their energy consumption.

If the systems could be set up countrywide, an predicted £500 million could be saved on customers’ energy bills, the firm estimated.

Iain Miller, Head of Innovation at Northern Powergrid, stated: “Innovations such as this are a key enabler of our plans to support net zero.

“We are excited to see our smart technology deliver real benefits to our customers & help free up more capacity to decarbonise our region.”
