British Gas reveals regional cost disparities of EV charging
British Gas reveals regional cost disparities of EV charging: Electric vehicle (EV) drivers deal with a “postcode lottery” regarding the charging prices, new British Gas research shows.
The data exposes a split between North & South with drivers in the South paying almost 28% extra than consumers in the North of England and Wales when charging their batteries using the more economical public chargers.
The study which is commissioned by British Gas after a Freedom of Information request to over 400 councils also discovered that fast chargers are over 10% more costly in the South.
The research also reveals that there are only 21 local authorities throughout England & Wales where it is entirely free to charge your EV utilising council owned public chargers.
The writers of the report believe charging from empty to full using the nation’s most expensive chargers would cost drivers about £240, in regards to average battery capacities.
They further emphasise that there are consumers in other areas who are charged as much as £4 for each kilowatt hour.
“The latest figures released today demonstrate the need for all UK councils to play their part in supporting the transition to EVs.
“Whilst the government does offer certain financial incentives at the point of purchase, charging costs are still a barrier to EV adoption.” stated Lucy Simpson, Head of EV Enablement at British Gas.
