Businesses aim to invest £13.6bn supercharge their fleets

Businesses aim to invest £13.6bn supercharge their fleets: Businesses all over the UK are planning to electrify their fleets with a £13.6bn finance in thousands of new electric vehicles (EVs).
UK businesses are fixed to take on over 163,000 electric vehicles this year as part of an important investment in fleet electrification, according to a current study by Centrica Business Solutions.
By the end of 2022, the study suggests almost 35% further firms will operate EVs on the road, compared to the 121,000 registered by businesses the year before.
The bulk of fleet operating businesses, 62%, said they predict to operate a 100% electric fleet over the next 4 years.
Still, regardless of the record levels of planned investment, nearly two-thirds of businesses are concerned regarding accessing public charging points.
To conquer the charging issue, about 48% of firms have set up EV chargers at their premises, along with over a third expecting to invest in on-site charging infrastructure over the next 12 months.
“Businesses will continue to play a vital role in achieving the UK’s green transport ambitions, but with a record number of EVs expected to enter the UK this year, we must ensure the supply of vehicles & wider charging infrastructure is robust enough to meet the demand, stated Greg McKenna, Managing Director of Centrica Business Solutions.
“Combining energy technology such as solar panels & battery storage into the wider charging infrastructure will help harness renewables & reduce the demand on the grid during peak charging times.”
