EDF’s coal fired power station could help this winter

EDF’s coal fired power station could help this winter: The government could allegedly soon come to an agreement with EDF to keep a Nottinghamshire coal-fired power station working longer than its scheduled closure.
The energy firm is in consultations with ministers concerning prolonging the life of its West Burton A power station, close to Retford.
The plant is scheduled to close in October but under the new proposals could stay going until March 2023.
It was stated that the agreement could see the power station supply backup power if needed for about 1.5 million homes.
Previously, Energy Minister Greg Hands had said the choice to keep the UK’s coal-fired power stations at regular capacity this winter to ease the energy crisis stayed on the government‘s table.
