The US has plans to install 500k new EV charging stations: US Vice President Kamala Harris announced today a plan to build 500,000 new publicly accessible electric vehicle (EV) chargers.
The US Vice President stated at a public event in the US state of Maryland that “the future is electric,” and that the new strategy aimed to reduce charging costs and transform the current landscape of the US car industry.
The recently signed $1 trillion (£760 billion) Bipartisan Infrastructure Act includes $5 billion (£3.7 billion) in funding to enable states to build the necessary infrastructure.
The law also includes an additional $2.5 billion (£1.8 billion) in local grants to support EV charging in rural areas and underserved communities.
The White House also intends to establish a Joint Office of Energy and Transportation to provide a coordinated federal approach and “one-stop-shop” solution for EV Charging resources.
Previously, the US President set the target of 50% EV share by 2030.
